USCIS Introduces Effortless Social Security Updates for New Citizens

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has revealed a new initiative allowing applicants filing Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, to seamlessly request an original or replacement Social Security number (SSN) or card and update their immigration status with the Social Security Administration (SSA) starting April 1. Noncitizens using the updated edition of Form N-400 (dated 04/01/24) will have the option to request an SSN or replacement card during the submission process, eliminating the need for a visit to an SSA office. This update streamlines the citizenship process, reducing bureaucratic hurdles for new citizens. The new edition of Form N-400 will be available for online filing on April 1, requiring applicants to create a USCIS online account for secure submission and tracking of immigration requests.
