U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) marked this year’s Independence Day by welcoming 11,000 new citizens in over 195 naturalization ceremonies. These events reflect the U.S. government’s commitment to embracing immigrants and highlighting the benefits of U.S. citizenship for all eligible individuals.
In fiscal year 2023, USCIS celebrated the naturalization of 878,500 new U.S. citizens. Based on this momentum, USCIS has welcomed 589,400 new citizens in FY 2024, significantly reducing the backlog of naturalization applications.
USCIS facilitates the naturalization process and raises awareness of the valuable contributions made by naturalized citizens. USCIS honors individuals who have significantly contributed to the country through initiatives like Outstanding Americans by Choice. Additionally, USCIS has provided $12.6 million in grants to organizations serving immigrants, including a new competitive funding opportunity through the Citizenship and Integration Training Academy.
“We are privileged to administer the Oath of Allegiance to thousands of new citizens during the Independence Day holiday,” said USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou. “These new citizens add diversity and character to our great nation, and we are committed to helping all who are eligible to experience the freedoms and liberties we enjoy as U.S. citizens.”
After each naturalization ceremony, USCIS encourages new U.S. citizens to share their naturalization stories and photos on social media using the hashtag #NewUSCitizen, celebrating their journey and inspiring others.
USCIS’s ongoing efforts to streamline the naturalization process and support immigrant communities reflect the agency’s dedication to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all who seek to call the United States home.
