India and Canada’s Diplomatic Challenges: A Spotlight on Immigrants, Foreign Students, Workers, and Trade

Most of the people who come to Canada to live, study, or work are from India.

Last week, the Canadian Prime Minister said that Indian government agents were involved in the killing of a Canadian citizen in Canada. India said that this was not true and that Canada was helping people who want to create a separate Sikh country called Khalistan.

Soon after, Canada expelled the head of Indian intelligence in Canada. India responded by expelling a senior Canadian diplomat. Relations between India and Canada have been bad for a few years now because India thinks that Canada is too friendly to people who want to create Khalistan. Canada has a lot of Sikh and Punjabi immigrants.
